A beautiful and varied walk in a lesser-known corner of the Ardennes! You’ll come across beaver traces, old abandoned railway tracks, and even a tunnel (which was closed at the time). Plenty of variety in a stunning region.
Vierves-sur-Viroin is a small village in the Belgian municipality of Viroinval, nestled in the valley of the Viroin River. Located in the province of Namur, it’s listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of Wallonia — reason enough to visit on its own!
Along the Viroin valley runs an old railway line that, after years of disuse, was brought back to life by the Chemin de Fer à Vapeur des 3 Vallées. This passionate group of railway enthusiasts organizes steam train and railcar rides on the Mariembourg–Treignes line. In the old station of Treignes, they’ve also built a railway museum where historic locomotives and carriages are lovingly restored.
Plenty to fill your day with both nature and culture!
