The Trou de Bra walk takes you deep into one of the most authentic corners of the Belgian Ardennes — near the village of Bra-sur-Lienne, tucked between Lierneux and Vielsalm in the province of Liège.
It’s a route that feels wild and unspoiled: narrow forest paths, steep descents, and the sound of the Lienne River following you through the valley. The walk passes through dense spruce woods, open meadows with wide views over the hills, and small mossy gorges where water carves through the rocks — hence the name “Trou de Bra”, the “hole” or depression near Bra where the Lienne cuts a small ravine.
The atmosphere changes constantly:
• In the forest: dark, quiet, and almost mystical, with ferns and fallen trunks along the stream.
• Along the Lienne: small bridges, damp rocks, and clear water winding between steep slopes.
• On the plateaus: pastoral views with scattered farms, grazing cows, and distant church towers.
It’s a moderately demanding hike — short but with some steep climbs and muddy patches after rain — perfect for hikers who enjoy a bit of adventure without crowds.
