The Stoppelbergen area is part of the Kalmthoutse Heide Border Park. It consists of mixed forest, gentle elevation changes (typical of the Brabantse Wal), and stretches of heathland. The area is home to many maritime pines, recognizable by their very long needles and large pinecones. The trees often grow at an angle, with bark that has a distinctively rough texture. The route starts in Belgium but almost immediately crosses into the Netherlands — a true little border case.
