Oostduinkerke

80.0 km 278 m elevation Belgium 2020-07-23
This route along the Belgian coast is a mix of everything: dunes, open farmland, and long stretches of asphalt. It starts near the seaside, where narrow sandy paths wind through low coastal bushes — not easy with the wind constantly pushing against you. Once you leave the dunes, the landscape opens up into the polders: wide fields, straight lines, and that typical coastal emptiness where you can see for kilometers in every direction.

The ride switches between gravel, farm tracks, and smooth bike paths, often exposed to the wind but rewarding for its variety. It’s the kind of area where you don’t see many people, just tractors in the distance and birds overhead.

Toward the end, the route crosses the border into France almost without noticing — just a small blue sign by the road. A nice touch to finish the ride: one moment you’re in Belgium, the next in France, without any border fuss.

A solid coastal loop with a bit of everything — open landscapes, changing surfaces, and plenty of fresh air.
