A varied gravel ride through the open fields and quiet trails between Buggenhout, Asse and Merchtem. The route mixes forest paths, farm tracks and short singletrack stretches, with a few small climbs and plenty of rural scenery.

Starting from the outskirts of Buggenhout Forest, the first section follows narrow grassy lanes and tree-lined tracks. It quickly opens into the typical Pajottenland landscape — wide farmland, scattered villages and church towers in the distance. The gravel alternates between compact and rough, with occasional muddy or overgrown segments that keep things interesting.

Between Lebbeke and Asse, the ride winds along quiet backroads and across small creeks, bordered by tall grass and farmland. The views are open and calm, and the terrain constantly shifts from light rolling hills to flat stretches. A few sections get quite narrow — singletracks along field edges where balance matters, especially in spring when the vegetation is high.

After Merchtem, the loop heads back north through smaller farm roads and shaded tree corridors. The surface gets faster again — hard gravel and small tarmac links that bring back rhythm before the final approach to Buggenhout.

It’s not a hard ride in terms of elevation, but it does ask for attention — the terrain changes often, and the mix of grass, gravel and light sand keeps you active on the bike. Perfect for a warm spring day when you just want to explore the green belt west of Brussels.
